The English wine industry has changed vastly in the last 30 years, with a great number if vineyards producing high-quality wines. Many of these are open for tours and tastings, some with restaurants serving a superb menu and some with accommodation if it all gets too much.
Denbies Wine Estate, near Dorking in Surrey was one of the largest vineyards in the country when it was established in 1986. The vines now occupy 265 acres and it offers a fantastic deal for visiting groups and is at a really convenient location.
Nestling across the South Downs, you’ll find a vast array of vineyards, from Rathfinny near the village of Alfriston in the east, to Ashling Park on the Hampshire borders. Locally sourced food is a pleasure, whether it’s breakfast sausages or fish caught fresh on the tide. So many of our cafes and restaurants take pride in what they serve. Foodies get together to celebrate these throughout the year at Food and Drink Festivals and also at the country shows dotted around the region.
Brighton Foodies, Eastbourne Feastival, Pub in the Park, the Kent County Show, the South of England Show. These are amongst may locations to celebrate the riches of local produce – fresh vegetables, meats, cheeses, beer and wine.
