Training Course

February 2025 Update

There is currently (2025) a GREEN BADGE course running in Canterbury. Whilst it is unlikely that the next Blue Badge course will be run this year, we are inviting expressions of interest in future training.

GREEN BADGE guides offer walking tours only in one town or city. In our region there are Green Badge Guides for Canterbury and Chichester). BLUE BADGE guides are regional guides who cover a far wider area (in our case the counties of Kent, Surrey and East and West Sussex) and can offer coach and walking tours throughout the region of qualification.

Tourist guides can be any age over 18 or nationality. The main requirement is that you enjoy meeting new people, can develop core guiding skills and have enthusiasm for the great sights, history, landscape and experiences that our region has to offer. If you wish to guide in any language other than your native language, you will need to pass additional language examinations.

If you are interested in training as a SE England tourist guide (Blue or Green Badge), we would love to hear from you. Please download and complete the enquiry form (offered both in Word 2013 format or pdf format) and e-mail it to our Secretary at the address given on the form. Your enquiry will be held on a waiting list, and you will be contacted as soon as the next relevant course details become available.

Our training programme is currently under review. We are considering the possibility of future training based on a modular Blue Badge regional programme (with separate modules for Kent, Sussex and Surrey) and possible new Green Badge courses in major city destinations such as Brighton. In order to assist with future planning, please indicate if either of these options might be of interest. We cannot guarantee that new courses will meet your preferred area, but we will take all requests into consideration in our planning.
